Aqua Vanish - 19" x 10 Yds
Details
Aqua-Vanish 1.18 oz Water-Soluble Backing (Lightweight)
19" x 50 Yds - Roll
Aqua-Vanish looks and feels like a traditional embroidery backing, but it completely dissolves in water after stitching. The lightweight 1.18 oz construction provides a stable sewing base and leaves no stabilizer behind once fully rinsed—ideal for lace, emblems, napkins, and handkerchiefs. Pro tip: when lightly misted and not fully rinsed, Aqua-Vanish can leave a temporary body/stiffness that helps free-standing lace hold its structure during drying; fully rinsing restores a soft hand.
Key Features
- 1.18 oz lightweight water-soluble backing
- Stabilizes while you stitch; washes away after finishing
- Optional body effect (partial rinse) to help FSL keep its shape
- Can be used as a topping to prevent stitch sink on terry, corduroy, chenille, fleece
- Best for low–medium stitch density (≈10,000–12,000 stitches per motif)
Application Instructions (Backing)
- Place one layer under fabric and hoop together securely
- Embroider; trim/pull loose excess
- For FSL shaping: lightly mist, shape, and air-dry (stiff body remains)
- For a soft finish: fully rinse/launder (cool–warm water); air-dry or tumble low
- For denser motifs/FSL, use 2–3 layers cross-grained
Application Instructions (As a Topping)
- Hoop garment with appropriate backing beneath
- Lay Aqua-Vanish on top; tack down if needed
- Stitch → tear away excess → mist/steam or rinse to remove traces
Important Notes
- Use temporary adhesive sparingly; over-application can hinder removal
- Residual stiffness is intentional when partially rinsed; fully rinse to restore softness
- Always test for colorfastness and finish compatibility
Where Not to Use
- Stretchy knits/performance wear needing permanent support — use cutaway
- Very dense/large designs (≈20,000+ stitches) — choose a heavier backing
- Items that won’t be washed/steamed (removal relies on moisture)
Applications
- Lace & free-standing lace (shape-and-set option)
- Emblems, heirloom linens, napkins, handkerchiefs
- As a topping on terry, corduroy, chenille, fleece
