Our 1.7 oz Tearaway/Washaway Backing provides temporary stabilization during embroidery, tears away like a standard tearaway, and the remaining fibers wash out in water for a soft, minimal-residue finish. Best for low- to medium-density designs (up to 10,000–12,000 stitches) on stable wovens, linens, and towels.

How to Use & Remove

• Place one layer under the fabric and hoop together securely
• Stitch the design
• Tear away excess backing gently in all directions
• Rinse or launder (cool–warm water) to dissolve remaining fibers; air dry or tumble low
• For designs over 12,000 stitches, use two layers cross-grained

Where Not to Use

• Stretchy knits/performance wear needing permanent support — use cutaway
• Very dense or large designs (20,000+ stitches) — use heavier tearaway or cutaway
• Items that won’t be washed/rinsed (removal relies on water)
• Non-colorfast fabrics without pre-testing
